The kestrel hits you.
Classic ASCII mode — @ you, K a kestrel, ! a potion, * gold, ) a weapon, % the stairs down. Pure ASCII, true to the 1980 terminal.
What it is
The Dungeons of Doom. Permadeath. The Amulet of Yendor.
Direhollow rebuilds the original Rogue for phones — the same seeded dungeons, the same A–Z bestiary, the same unforgiving rules — with touch-first controls, reliable saves, and an authentic ASCII display. We modernize the shell, not the rules.
Features
True permadeath
One life, one seed. The save is deleted on death — no reloading an earlier turn.
The full bestiary
The complete A–Z roster, depth-ordered exactly as the original intended.
Loot & identify
Per-run appearances for scrolls, potions, rings and wands — learn them or risk them.
The Amulet of Yendor
Descend to claim it, then climb back to the surface alive. Few will.
Touch-first controls
A 3×3 move pad, pinch-to-zoom, and a tap-driven pack — built for a phone, not ported to one.
True ASCII
The authentic 1980 glyph grid — no tiles, no remix. The terminal classic on a phone.
Why
The only faithful port of the original on iOS is years stale and rough; there's no prominent faithful port on Android at all. Direhollow's wedge is simple: the real game, played right on a phone — and free.
